It all started when…

Kayla was living with Lindsay in Hell’s Kitchen in an apartment that wasn’t really built for two people. Alex had just moved back home from Richmond to re-join his friends and family in beautiful New Jersey.

Not long after, a concert in the city brought us together.

“Brian’s friend who lived in Richmond” and Kayla chatted all night, met a few more times, and talked non-stop until our first date.

Flash forward through 6 years of eating, drinking, traveling around the world, going to concerts, exploring Jersey City, and buying a home together. Alex proposed while away for our 5 year anniversary. We went for a hike and at the end of the trail, Alex gave Kayla her “anniversary present”. Sitting on a log we read a children’s book of the story of us that ended with a picture of a ring. Kayla looked up and Alex had the ring in his hands and asked the big question.

Flash forward again to 2021, but not just finding out we were pregnant…we were pregnant with TWINS! Nathaniel and Lucas joined our family a little bit early on November 30, 2021. It was the hardest week of our lives, but the love of our new little family grew exponentially and bonded us in a special way.

Our lives have moved in many new and unplanned directions, but the best is yet to come.

Officiant: John

A friend of Alex’s from UR, John was a fellow Choeur Du Roi singer and his roommate. As Riggins’ other dad, John has been there from the beginning of Alex and Kayla’s relationship…literally he was there for the 2nd date. While living in NYC we all hung out and spent countless hours drinking beers, talking GoT, and playing Ticket to Ride.

Junior groomsman: William

Kayla’s oldest nephew, Will is the creator of Alex’s nickname “Ayex” (Ls are hard for kids).

Ring bearer: Oliver

Kayla’s youngest nephew, Oliver is a singer, dancer, and overall Lion King.

Matron of Honor: Kim

The oldest of the K-Girls, Kim was both big sister and babysitter to Kayla. Kim brought Kayla to her first Yankees game in ‘98 and tested her on the line-up every day. When Kim left for college, Kayla had her picture hanging next to her bed. Kim still takes care of Kayla and Alex whenever we visit DC with fantastic meals, beers, and wine, while we enjoy being Auntie and Uncle to Will and Ollie.

Maid of honor: Kourtney

The middle K-Girl and just 2 years older, Kourtney and Kayla were practically twins as kids (thanks, mom!). They did everything together, from doing NDI to an 8th- grade-Kourt making a 6th-grade-Kayla cool by taking the 6 train together, to going to GW together. They still do everything together as adults, thanks to Facetime!

Best Man: Peter

Peter is brother of Alex and current Toronto-based expat. For Alex’s formative years Peter would barely let him get a word in edgewise. A performer, musician, and one-time magician, Peter was always the one to pave the way and lend sage advice as they navigated growing up three years apart. Alex couldn’t imagine taking this next step without Pete up there with him.

Best Man: Brian

Brian and Alex have been friends since the dawn of time. Frequent musical collaborators, in-frequent co-workers, one-time roommates, and future sort of cousins or something - they’ve been through it all. Brian and Lindsay are the reason this wedding is happening, so blame them. They’ve been family since long before they officially become family.

Bridesmaid: Lindsay

Lindsay and Kayla have done everything together. Lindsay is Kayla’s 1st cousin once removed, SSFL, fellow Italian Study Abroad student, former Whitby roommate, and the reason why Alex and Kayla are together. As (best man) Brian’s wife, Lindsay has known Alex and Kayla separately and together, and was witness to Alex and Kayla meeting, going on their first date (she spent half of it with them), and moving in together.

Bridesmaid: Kaitlin

Kaitlin is another one of many #TheHive cousins. Another ‘88+’90 crew cousin, Kaitlin and Kayla have been cousins and friends through everything: playing tennis at night with our dads, Kaitlin visiting GW every year (be a fountain!), and going through muddy Gov Ball. Kaitlin, Lindsay, and Kayla would spend many a nights at the Whitby, cooking dinners and constantly making each other laugh.

Groomsman: noah

Noah and Alex have been friends since the dinosaurs roamed the land. In the early days they spent their days playing video games, pretending to go on runs, being the only shot putters worth their salt, downing mint chocolate chip milkshakes, playing endless hours of ping pong, and just generally enjoying their friendship. Now occupying opposite coasts, they still just generally enjoy their friendship. That’ll never change.

Bridesmaid: Julianne

Kayla and Julianne met at Brooklyn Tech, freshman year, in weight lifting gym class (haha look at us now!), when someone said, “Hey meet my friend who also lives downtown!” From then on it was countless trips back and forth from FiDi to BPC, hanging with each others families, and talking about everything. Both members of JuDo NicKa (Oh SIX!) they are best friends, former Upper East Side roommates, and early-’00s hip-hop & R&B enthusiasts.

Bridesmaid: Candace

Candace was Kayla’s first and last roommate while at GW. They enjoyed pillow talk from one lofted bed to another in the dorms of Fulbright and Ivory. Bonding over a love of music and all things NYC, Kayla and Candace made “John Legend Time” a daily occurrence, attended many concerts together, and woke up to Jay-Z regularly. Candace and Kayla continue their friendships with countless heart-to-hearts while day-drinking and brunching during their DC/NY visits.

Groomsman: Andrew

Andrew and Alex have been friends since the first cave paintings were discovered. Bonding over a mutual love of music, Andrew slapped the bass in several of their bands (which, really, were all the same band come to think of it) and regularly shared his funky riffs and anarchistic middle school views. The first of the group to marry and first to sire children, Andrew’s always been an old soul. Just keep an eye out to the dance floor when you get some tequila in him.

Groomsman: Scott

Scott and Alex have been friends since the days of the earliest explorers. Always one to do things just for the story, Scott was ever the source of entertainment and adventure. After they entered the workforce, there were a couple years when Scott was simultaneously Alex’s friend, boss, and landlord. It kept things interesting. They’ve remained good friends through it all.
